Linda Can Help You Determine the Best Path to Follow

Medicare only cares about your care as long as you can get better.  As soon as you have a diagnosis of not getting better, Medicare does not care about you at all.
There are two government programs that can help with medical expenses and nursing home care:  veteran pension and Medicaid.
The veteran pension provides cash payments to the veteran or the veteran's widow/er for in-home and assisted living medical care. Medicaid provides payment primarily for nursing home care directly to the nursing home.
The programs have different requirements for eligibility and different pitfalls resulting in ineligibility.
Traps exist for the uninformed. For example, gifting your asssets will not disqualify you for the veteran pension but WILL disqualify you for Medicaid benefits. The timing of a Medicaid application is crucial for maximizing asset retention.
The Deficit Reduction Act radically changed the Medicaid rules. Planning ahead has become more important than ever.
